The Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) was formed
in July 1990 by the Commonwealth Government to work closely with Australian
rural industries on the organization and funding of their R&D needs.
It manages and funds priority research and translates the results into
practical outcomes for industry development. The focus of RIRDC is on
new and emerging industries as a means of diversification of rural
enterprises in Australia.
The RIRDC Deer Program is funded by statutory levies paid by industry
participants with levy revenue matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis by the
Australian Government up to 0.5 percent of the gross value of farm
production.

Considerable research has been conducted and remains underway in the area of
deer farming.
Much of this research is available online from the
RIRDC website.
